Death Valley National Park, CA
Golden Canyon Trail

Golden Canyon, Death Valley National Park

As you head south, the next point of interest is Golden Canyon. You'll find a fairly easy trail which will lead you through a wide canyon.

Golden Canyon, Death Valley National Park

Near the start of the Golden Canyon trail, you may notice a number of eroded washes that open up into the main canyon. These are almost tiny canyons in and of themselves, and if you're feeling adventurous, you can climb up into them. As you can see, the wash I chose became very steep, and the loose, eroded dirt made the climb a bit precarious.

Here's your reward for the steep climb. An excellent view of the valley opens up between the narrow walls of the wash. Amazingly, there are signs of life here. I found a few wildflowers clinging to the very steep rock.
